Top Gun: Maverick keeps soaring through records, and has now beaten Titanic in the US box office, becoming the seventh highest-grossing movie ever. So far, it’s made $662 million in ticket sales in the United States alone.

James Cameron’s Titanic has been beaten by over $3 million, placing Top Gun: Maverick behind Avenger’s Infinity War, which grossed $682 million in the US box office.

It’s not only become a hit at home, but it’s also been great for actor Tom Cruise. It became his highest-grossing film of all time, allowing him to reap at least $100 million off of it. It’s also become Paramount’s number one film at the box office. Globally, it grossed over $1 billion, but still falls short of Titanic’s global box office earnings. Titanic earned $1.5 billion internationally and a total of $2.2 billion globally.

Top Gun: Maverick was directed by Joseph Kosinski, and takes place decades after the events of the first film. The sequel sees the return of legendary pilot Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. The film is packed with intense action sequences that could only be filmed once due to the set flying away.
