Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 deserves a proper remaster

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 previously held the title for the fastest selling Call of Duty game ever. It was dethroned from that position in 2022 by Modern Warfare 2, but Modern Warfare 3 is certainly still one of the best Call of Duty games ever. It’s one of the highest-selling in the franchise and it’s got a story worth telling. It finished off the original Modern Warfare trilogy beautifully, and it included some great gameplay and graphics for 2011. Still, there is no remaster for the Modern Warfare 3 campaign or multiplayer to this day.

Modern Warfare Remasters

Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 both have a remaster. Modern Warfare got a remaster for its campaign and multiplayer, while Modern Warfare 2 only got a campaign remaster. These classics of the Call of Duty series definitely needed to be updated for modern machinery.

They are definitely outdated today, but their remasters breathed new life into their stories. The gunplay felt smoother, the audio was much better, and the graphics were beautiful.

The remasters were also clearly good enough to get many people to buy them and play them. Considering that the original Modern Warfare trilogy is second to the Black Ops trilogy in terms of sales and popularity, there’s no reason why we can’t enjoy them in an optimized state for today’s hardware.

After all, video games often get remasters and remakes. The Last of Us Part I has gotten more remasters than I think anyone can count at this point. Assassin’s Creed 3 also received a remaster. Why not Modern Warfare 3?

The Case for Modern Warfare 3

Modern Warfare 3 was certainly among the most memorable in the entire Call of Duty franchise. A culmination to the World War III arc that Call of Duty was exploring, Modern Warfare 3 was emotionally gripping and powerful.

Modern Warfare 3 threw you right into the heat of battle in an American city as a member of the elite covert unit, Delta Force. Not only did you get to explore the perspective of Delta Force, but we also got more SAS and more Task Force 141. We met Yuri, we got an end to Makarov’s story that was satisfying, and a few tears were shed along the way.

The thing is, Modern Warfare 3 is also one of the best in its varied campaign gameplay. We had missions on boats, missions on the ground, in the air, etc… Much to the tune of previous Call of Duty titles, it really did excel in providing plenty of things to do. It was also all cohesive and made sense with proper pacing as well.

Makarov was an absolute unit in Modern Warfare 3 and the full extent of his power and influence got even more intense in Modern Warfare 3.

What Does Modern Warfare 3 Need a Remaster For?

Modern Warfare 3, as great as it is, is very outdated. Its audio is pretty bad for today’s standards. Graphics and gunplay could be so much better as well. Simply put: It needs to be updated.

Modern Warfare 3 features some great moments that would look even better with new graphics involved. With its varied locations, night and water missions, and intensive war action, it really needs a remaster.

Activision has continued to deny that there is a remaster, but some leakers think one is out there. Whatever the case may be, I really hope that Modern Warfare 3 gets at least some sort of remaster for its campaign.

Next to Modern Warfare 2, I’ve replayed Modern Warfare 3’s campaign an unhealthy amount of times.
