Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has become the biggest launch in Call of Duty history, according to Activision.

A statement today by the company reveals that Modern Warfare 2 “set a new franchise opening weekend record” across its first three days. It bested the five-day record set by Modern Warfare 3 back in 2011. Players also set “player participation franchise records,” smashing through the record of unique players and hours played.

Call of Duty general manager Johanna Faries stated that the launch was “the highest-grossing entertainment opening of the year.” Faries also promised “an unprecedented level of support for the Modern Warfare universe.”

Modern Warfare 2 has broken franchise records on PlayStation and Steam, with generally positive reception despite bugs and glitches.

Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2 Hardcode mode also launch later this month.
