Call of Duty is coming back for a 2023 release

Well, another year, another Call of Duty I guess. It looks like Activision wants to cash in on that sweet COD profits, because Call of Duty is not going to be skipping the annual release like everybody else assumed it would.

For the longest time ever, we all assumed that Modern Warfare 2 would be a two-year Call of Duty release. Many people bought it with the expectations that we would have at least two years of continuous updates to play the game. Especially when you consider how little content there has been so far in Modern Warfare 2, this was slightly justifiable.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has made Activision over $1 billion in a short period of time. It’s now the fastest selling Call of Duty title ever, and it’s been extremely popular since it released. It even managed to trump Elden Ring in sales numbers, and Elden Ring was literally Game of the Year.

Now, it looks like Activision has decided to release another Call of Duty title for 2023. In a recent earnings call, the gaming giant revealed that “the next full annual premium release in the blockbuster series” is coming in 2023. Activision reported revenues of $2.3 billion with a net income of $403 million.

In other words, that’s a lot of money. And that’s just a quarterly report.

What is Call of Duty in 2023 Going to Be?

It’s currently not known what the next Call of Duty title will be. It seems like it will be a follow-up to Modern Warfare 2, so it’s safe to assume it could be Modern Warfare 3.

Sledgehammer Games is the lead studio on the project, and the information was confirmed by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier. However, it is going to be a collaboration between several studios, as is the case usually with Call of Duty.

Tom Henderson, a popular Call of Duty leaker, has revealed the dates for the Beta and more for the next Call of Duty title. It is reportedly set to launch on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC on November 10, 2023.

The PlayStation-only beta is set to be from October 6, 2023 to October 10, 2023. The open beta is from October 12, 2023 to October 16, 2023. The early access for the campaign is set to be on November 2, 2023.

This might come as a disappointment to many people, however. Modern Warfare 2 could’ve been a great two-year release Call of Duty. It literally feels like the game just came out the other day, but we’re already talking about the next game.
