Battlefield's next game will have biggest team ever developing it

Battlefield 2042 certainly wasn’t the most popular Battlefield game, and in fact was a pretty big disappointment to many longtime fans of the series. However, it looks like the next Battlefield game is going to be more honed in on, with the game now getting the biggest team the series has ever seen.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson has said that the next Battlefield title will still continue on the live service trend but that it would connect the “multiplayer and single-player experiences.”

During EA’s latest financial report, Wilson spoke about his excitement towards the future of the shooter franchise.

“Our teams have listened to the community, have learned valuable lessons, and are driving to the future. Motive, armed with cutting-edge Frostbite technology and compelling storytelling, is joining DICE, Criterion, and Ripple Effect to build a Battlefield universe across connected multiplayer and single-player experiences. This is the largest Battlefield team in franchise history.”

Last month, Motive general manager Patrick Klaus revealed that the studio would be working on the upcoming unnamed Battlefield title. Dead Space directors Philippe Ducharme and Roman Campos-Oriola are in charge of the team.

Klaus had stated that the two Dead Space directors had a “proven expertise in storytelling, immersive battles and developing on the Frostbite engine.”

Although many are still skeptical about live service and its effectiveness, financially, the model seems to be doing wonders for EA. Wilson shared that Apex Legends has now surpassed $3.4 billion in lifetime revenue. Regarding Apex Legends, he said: “We engaged with the community, increased transparency, and thoughtfully addressed their feedback, and, as a result, saw dramatic improvements in player sentiment scores around the world.”

Regarding other Battlefield news, a single-player campaign that was previously being worked on by Ridgeline Games–led by ex-Halo co-creator Marcus Letho–was closed in February. Lehto commented that he had nothing “positive to say about EA.”

The future of the Battlefield franchise seems to be set on the live-service model, but it will certainly be interesting to see how the franchise will take up the idea of connecting both live-service multiplayer experiences with the single-player experiences.
