Elden Ring has been predicted to be 2022’s best selling game, marking the third time that Call of Duty Loses the Top Spot since 2009

NDP Group analyst Mat Piscatella believes that Elden Ring will grow to become 2022’s most sold game, following one of the strongest game launches we’ve ever seen.

In terms of Call of Duty this would be the franchise’s third year not in the number one spot in American markets since 2009. If this is the case, that would make Elden Ring’s launch one of the most impressive in modern gaming history, considering CoD has been number one for 12 out of the past 14 years.

The only two games that have beaten CoD to the top spot in sales were Rockstar Games’ GTA 5, one of the most popular video games in history, and Red Dead Redemption 2, also by Rockstar.

Elden Ring has sold 13.4 million copies since as of May of this year, making it an outdated statistic that is likely significantly lower than the actual number.

FromSoftware’s hit has already outsold CoD Vanguard, Activision’s latest flop. it’s very possible, and honestly very likely, that it will outsell the newest edition to the franchise as well, although we’ll have to wait and see the data.
