Avatar: The Way of Water trailer shows off beautiful visuals and ocean work

Avatar: The Way of Water has gotten a brilliant new trailer just a few weeks ahead of the highly anticipated sci-fi sequel’s December 16 release.

20th Century Studios released the new trailer on Wednesday, with the sequel taking place about ten years after the original film (which took place in 2154). It will tell the story of the return of Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang), who has been revived through a Na’vi avatar form and his fight against Pandora native Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and her mate Jake Sully (Sam Worthington).

Sigourney Weaver, who is starring as Kiri, one of the children of Neytiri and Jake, said to Variety that the new film “is about family, about our families trying to stay together [and] the lengths to which we all go to protect each other and protect the place where we live.

The trailer shows off some of the stunning visuals for the upcoming movie, with ocean footage and the breath-holding skills that the cast trained to be able to perform. Saldana revealed that her personal record for holding her breath underwater was five minutes.

James Cameron is writing, producing, and editing Avatar: The Way of Water. John Landeau and Peter M. Tobyansen are also producing the film. Cameron is serving as the director as well. The story was co-written by Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno.
