Ubisoft is making a move to remove the online mode from multiple of their older games, which includes Far Cry 3 and Prince of Persia.

The decision will come into action on September first, where the studio will be closing the online features for specific games, most of which are from the Assassin’s Creed franchise. The list of games affected has been released, as well as which specific features will be removed.

  • Assassin’s Creed 2: Multiplayer, linking accounts, online features
  • Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood: Multiplayer, linking accounts, online features, DLC access
  • Silent Hunter 5: Multiplayer, linking accounts, online features, DLC access
  • Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands: Multiplayer, linking accounts, online features, DLC access
  • Anno 2070: Multiplayer, linking accounts, online features
  • Driver San Francisco: Multiplayer, linking accounts, online features, DLC access
  • Assassin’s Creed 3: multiplayer, linking accounts, online features, DLC access
  • Far Cry 3: Multiplayer, linking accounts, online features, DLC access
  • Splinter Cell: Blacklist: Multiplayer, linking accounts, online features
  • Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD: Multiplayer, linking accounts, online features, DLC access
  • Space Junkies: Unable to play

The move comes as the studio attempts to streamline their focus on newer, more popular titles. Ubisoft stated that: “Closing the online services for some older games allows us to focus our resources on delivering great experiences for players who are playing newer or more popular titles.”

The remastered games will continue to receive online support however, so owners of those games will be able to play older titles in co-op or online. They will also continue having DLC-access.

The one major concern is how it may affect fans. Space Junkies, which will be rendered completely useless by the studio’s move, is still available for its $40 price on Steam, and there is no notice of the September deadline.
