Bloomberg first reported details of the new Ubisoft project, currently titled “Rift.” The game was originally supposed to be an expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but has become a full-size project over time. Ubisoft has not commented yet, but speculations are that the game may release sometime in 2022 or 2023.

Rift is supposedly going to follow Basim from Valhalla. His character is more of the classic assassin that fans have been longing for. The new game would focus more on stealth, which is a move away from the heavy combat-focus games we have been seeing with the latest three games. Beginning with Assassin’s Creed Origins, the games have moved to a more Witcher III style RPG with a heavy open-world focus. This new project may not be in line with this style.

Rift and Infinity–the live service Assassin’s Creed project–are not the same game. Ubisoft has not given much information on Infinity either, but most rumors and reports have found that the new Infinity project would feature multiple locations and many missions. Rift would release before Infinity though.

If these reports turn to be true, it could mark a potential return to the original Assassin’s Creed formula that fans have been missing for a while now. Although the trilogy has been received positively in sales, it has not been received as positively amongst long-time fans of the series.
