Assassin's Creed Rift is already delayed

Ubisoft publicly revealed that it was delaying Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and cancelling four titles, including Ghost Recon Frontline and Splinter Cell VR the other day.

In addition to this, it seems that there was also another delay of an unannounced title. A new report by Bloomberg seems to reveal that the mystery delayed title was indeed Assassin’s Creed Rift. Many had already theorized that it would be Assassin’s Creed Rift, the code name of the new title.

In the report, it seems that the next entry has been moved from a February release to sometime between May and June. The report stated that the project is “running far behind schedule.” Ubisoft Bordeaux is currently leading the game and stated that it would need more time. Ubisoft Bordeaux had previously worked on the Wrath of the Druids expansion to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

The new Assassin’s Creed game, codenamed Rift, is reportedly a smaller and stealth-focused title that follows Basim from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. It was apparently placed to fill out the currently small release schedule. The game is set to be revealed during the 15th anniversary stream in September by Ubisoft.

What’s up for the 15th anniversary stream?

The 15th anniversary stream is slated currently to reveal more details about the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. This includes Assassin’s Creed Infinity, the reported live service entry being developed by Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec. Bloomberg likened it to Fortnite’s model and said it will be a “massive online platform that evolves over time” and is still “at least three years away.”

There was also the recent leak about a codenamed Assassin’s Creed Red, which Bloomberg’s Jason Schrier stated would just be part of Assassin’s Creed Infinity. Previous leaks claimed it would be a Japanese setting for the series, but it will not be a standalone title.

There are speculations as well that a remaster for Assassin’s Creed (2007) may be on its way in some capacity as well. It is the only one of the original games that has not yet been remastered or fixed in some way, and it currently is not backwards compatible on the PlayStation. However, it is backwards compatible on the Xbox.
