Starfield download size revealed

Starfield is now available to preload on Xbox Series X/S and PC and the total download size has finally been revealed. It’s a bit of a massive game, as was probably expected by many. In total, Starfield is well over 100GB for the standard edition of the game. So, you’re going to have to free up a solid amount of space for this one. Over on Xbox, players will need to fork up nearly 125GB of total free space. If you preloaded it earlier this year, then you can expect to see a 100GB update soon.

For PC players, you can expect to need about 140 GB of free space. It’s a pretty large amount of space, but it is subject to go up with day 1 patches and other potential updates.

If you happened to have pre-ordered the title from the Microsoft Store, then you’ll be able to preload it on PC right now. For those PC players who are using Steam, it’s going to take a bit more time. You’ll need to wait until August 30 to preload the upcoming sci-fi RPG.

Early access starts on September 1st for those who are planning on pre-ordering the Premium Edition of the game. For everyone else, the official release date is on September 6. If you are playing the title with Xbox Game Pass, you will also need to wait until September 1st.

In addition to early access, Premium Edition owners will get the Old Mars Skin Pack for the Laser Cutter, Deep Mining Helmet, and Deep Mining Pack. You will also get the Constellation Skin Pack for the Equinox Laser Rifle, Spacesuit, Helmet and Boost Pack. The digital artbook and original soundtrack, as well as the Shattered Space expansion will also be included in the Premium Edition.

The most expensive edition of Starfield is the Constellation Edition, which runs at nearly $300. It’s quite a pricey purchase, but it does include a steelbook display case, a Constellation patch, and a Chronomark watch and case as well as a credit stick with a Starfield code etched on it. So, in addition to all the stuff you get in the Premium Edition, you do get some physical goodies too.

What New Info is There About Starfield?

Not a lot has been revealed since the Starfield Direct during the Xbox Games Showcase earlier this summer. However, we have gotten a few tidbits of information. For starters, players will have a chance to purchase a residence in every major city available in Starfield.

You will also be able to add 20 companion characters to join your crew, with four of them from the Constellation faction. These four are the first faction you encounter and will receive the most narrative focus. You’ve probably already seen them from the recent Starfield Direct.

Starfield is pretty much one of the most highly anticipated games of 2023 and there is a lot that players are very excited for. Not only will Starfield boast 1,000 procedurally generated planets, but there will be a lot to do in each planet.

With major cities, an advanced character creator, immersive ship-building and more, Starfield is setting up to be Xbox’s biggest release this generation.

After Redfall, I’m hoping Xbox delivers really well on Starfield because this could genuinely be a huge deal for the console.

You can watch our breakdown of the Starfield Direct below:

The official description of Starfield says the following:

“Starfield is the first new universe in over 25 years from Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4. In this next generation role-playing game set amongst the stars, create any character you want and explore with unparalleled freedom as you embark on an epic journey to answer humanity’s greatest mystery.

In the year 2330, humanity has ventured beyond our solar system, settling new planets, and living as a spacefaring people. You will join Constellation — the last group of space explorers seeking rare artifacts throughout the galaxy — and navigate the vast expanse of space in Bethesda Game Studios’ biggest and most ambitious game.”
