The director for Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell remake, David Grivel, has left the company after working with them for 11 years.

Grivel made the announcement on LinkedIn, stating that it was “time for [him] to go on a new adventure.”

His legacy includes Ghost Recon Future Soldier at Ubisoft Paris before he moved to Ubisoft Toronto to work on Splinter Cell Blacklist, Assassin’s Creed Unity, Far Cry 4, 5, and 6. He was the director for the Splinter Cell remake before deciding to leave Ubisoft.

Back in December 2021, Ubisoft announced that a Splinter Cell remake was in the works. The original Splinter Cell released back in 2002 as an Xbox exclusive and was a stealth-focused title. The story revolves around an NSA black ops agent named Sam Fisher who works with the secret organization within the NSA titled Third Echelon.

Ubisoft added that the remake of Splinter Cell would be built with the Snowdrop engine, which is used for The Division and will be used to build Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora along with the upcoming Star Wars game.

Earlier this year, reports emerged that seem to show that the Splinter Cell remake will be reworked for “modern-day” audiences, according to a job posting for a scriptwriter at Ubisoft Toronto.
