Sony announces new rewards program, PlayStation Stars

Sony has announced that it will be adding a new loyalty and rewards program called PlayStation Stars. The program will be free and launch “later this year.” No specific details on the release date have ben given by Sony yet though.

PlayStation players in the Stars program will be eligible to earn rewards via completing tasks known as “campaigns.” For example, earning certain achievements or spending a certain amount of time in a specific title will reward players.

PlayStation Stars is set to be the first loyalty rewards program for the console.

Loyalty points earned in the program can be redeemed for PS Network wallet funds, which can then be used to purchase things as though it were real money. Gamers who have a subscription with Sony’s PlayStation Plus online service will also earn additional points to spend in the PlayStation Store. Those who are not subscribed to PS Plus will not receive this feature.

Points can be redeemed for games, add-ons, or collectibles. Sony is planning on expanding the rewards and campaigns.

Sony has not revealed all the details about the PlayStation Stars program, but has said that there will be a monthly check-in campaign where users will be rewarded for playing at least one game. Additionally, there will be other campaigns for winning tournaments and earning specific trophies.

The firsts player to complete all in-game achievements, which is called reaching platinum, will receive a reward.

Sony did ensure to clarify that the collectibles are not NFTs.
