Justin Roiland, the co-creator of Rick and Morty, has been charged with felony domestic violence

Rick and Morty co-creator and High on Life creator Justin Roiland was charged in a California court with felony domestic violence according to a report by NBC News.

NBC was able to obtain the criminal complaint brought against Roiland back in May 2020 in connection with an incident in January 2020.

Roiland is being charged with one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud, and/or deceit. The charges were brought against him by an anonymous Jane Doe he had been dating at the time.

Justin Roiland pleaded not guilty to both charges.

As of now, over a dozen hearings have taken place. Today, Roiland appeared for a pre-trial hearing, but the trial date has not yet been set.

Roiland was arrested back in May 2020 and released on a $50,000 bond in August of that same year. In October 2020, a protective order was filed against Roiland, stating that he was not permitted to harass, threaten, surveil, or go within 100 feet of the Jane Doe. He was also ordered to turn in any firearms he owned or held in possession.

NBC stated that body camera footage, police reports, and other information are currently being withheld from the public under a protective order.
