Mortal Kombat mobile game Onslaught 2023

Mortal Kombat is getting a new mobile game, announced Warner Bros. Games. Mortal Kombat: Onslaught will release in 2023 and will be a collection RPG developed by NetherRealm studios.

Onslaught is set to feature “the first mobile-exclusive cinematic story experience for the franchise, where players must build a team of fighters from a vast roster of characters — and unleash them in massive real-time group battles to stop a dark and dangerous threat from wreaking havoc across the realms.”

Ed Boon, the chief creative officer at NetherRealm said that “we are pushing the boundaries of Mortal Kombat to allow players to experience the franchise in new ways, while still staying true to its core visceral nature.

“With Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, we reimagined Mortal Kombat into a strategic team-based collection RPG with fast-paced, group melee combat that both new and existing fans can enjoy.”

The last time Mortal Kombat had a mobile entry was back in 2015, with the free-to-play Mortal Kombat Mobile. Warner Bros stated that the game had amassed over 150 million installs since.

Mortal Kombat’s 30th anniversary is this month. The franchise began back in 1992 and has sold 72 million games, including 12 million copies of 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11.

A sequel to 2021 Mortal Kombat movie is in production at New Line Cinema. Warner Bros. had hired Fantastic 4 and Moon Knight writer Jeremy Slater to pen the script for Mortal Kombat 2.
