Michael Bay has been charged in the killing of a pigeon on the Italian set of his 2019 Netflix movie titled 6 Underground.
Bay spoke with TheWrap on Thursday, vehemently denying the charges. He said, “I am a well-known animal lover and major animal activist. No animal involved in the production was injured or harmed. Or on any other production I’ve worked on in the past 30 years.”
According to TMZ, authorities allege that the pigeon was killed by a dolly as a scene was shot in Rome. A person on set took a picture of the dead bird and told officials. Pigeons reportedly have special protections in Italy.
Bay told TheWrap that witnesses and safety officers can debunk the photo and that it “gives a false story.”
He declined to offer up any specifics, but promised that he would win in court. Bay said that he could have paid a small fine to resolve the situation but that he would have falsely admitted guilt.
Michael Bay is known for movies like “Transformers” and “Armageddon.” He is typically well-known for his intense thriller movies that feature many explosions.
6 Underground starred Ryan Reynolds as a billionaire who leads a group of mercenaries that are working to depose a tyrant.
