James Blum hopes to make a sequel to The Invisible Man with James Wan

James Blum, the head of Blumhouse, is currently in talks to merge his company with Atomic Monster, the hit production company run by horror director James Wan. Blum has worked with Wan before on previous films like Insidious and the two often reference each other’s works in their own movies. Blum and Wan are both working together on the upcoming film M3GAN. Blum is also hoping to make a sequel to The Invisible Man with Wan.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about the potential merger and M3GAN, Blum said that missing out on producing Malignant was one of the things that convinced him to merge Blumhouse with Atomic Monster.

Malignant was worked on by James Wan and Akela Cooper, who penned the film.

Blum explained that he gets “very nervous anytime James does a scary movie without me. I get very upset.”

If the merger does happen, Blum says he’s counting on Wan to help him make a sequel to the 2020 hit, The Invisible Man.

The Invisible Man told the story of a woman trying to escape her abusive, narcissistic boyfriend who could turn himself invisible. It came out near the beginning of the pandemic and was an instant hit with both critics and viewers. No sequel has been announced for The Invisible Man, however.

Blum says that it’s “mostly” his fault. He added that if Blumhouse and Atomic Monster merge, then “maybe James will help me solve that problem.” Wan said that he’d be “more than happy to.”
