Thunderbolts

New information has been released in regards to Marvel’s film Thunderbolts, which is set for a release in 2024. New rumors show that we may be seeing Harrison Ford on screen.

Jeff Sneider, a reporter for The Ankler, went to Twitter to shine light on the new rumor, stating that the Indiana Jones star “either is or was the studio’s top choice to star in THUNDERBOLTS as the General himself.” Although the editor did mention that the rumors are currently unclear.

Sneider spoke with John Rocca and claimed that the studio wanted to announce the 80 year-old’s casting at D23, however Ford did not finalize his decision at the time and as such, Disney had to put the announcement on hold. Multiple reasons may have been behind his reluctancy, with many speculating his focus on Lucasfilm to not wanting to replace his friend William Hurt.

Hurt has played Thunderbolt Ross in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Incredible Hulk in 2008, however he passed away back in March of 2022 due to terminal prostate cancer, which he had been suffering from all the way back in 2018. With his passing away and the importance of Hurt’s role, it makes sense that Disney would be looking to replace him.

The character, General Thaddeus Ross, was introduced in the Incredible Hulk, with him being a main supporter of the research Banner was doing leading up to his accident that turned hum into the hulk. The general also led the experiment to create The Abomination, a superhuman version of a man named Emile Blonsky.

Later in the film the General would rise to the role of Secretary of State and was behind the drafting of the Sakovia Accords, which would ultimatley lead to the Avenger Civil War. His character is a crucial one in the MCU and has a very vital role in its development.
