Dr. Disrespect's new game, Deadrop

Dr. Disrespect, a famous Twitch streamer with a loyal following, has announced that his developing studio, Midnight Society, is working on a first-person shooter video game called Deadrop.

The title is set to be a PvP multiplayer title with plans to incorporate NFTs. Dr. Disrespect released a demo of the game, which is available for approved users to download on the website for Midnight Society.

Midnight Society is planning on involving the community in the development of the game, starting with the playable “snapshot” of Deadrop.

Deadrop’s main premise is that it takes place in the year “2020.b,” where self-governed megastructures known as Refiner States have turned toxic pollutants into “space dust,” an addictive and valuable substance.

Midnight Society’s official synopsis states this:

“40 years into the Climate Wars, population and pollution levels skyrocket. Cities erect massive REFINER STATES – mega structures built to extract toxins from the stratosphere. These towers are self-governed “city-states” with only one export – SPACE DUST. A concentrate from the refined pollutants is bricked, cut, and sold to an addicted populous of the sprawling urban cities surrounding the structure.

Once Government-owned facilities, the lucrative ‘DUST’ trade has now led to the forced occupation of the REFINER STATES by competing factions fighting for control of the towers and the resources inside.

These factions, made up of Skins and Syns, compete against the occupying force of Cleaners who operate the Refiner State in a never-ending struggle for resources and gear.”

Deadrop’s main design is to be a “vertical extraction shooter” with collecting gear and resources as a priority as you fight up the tower with survival as your main goal.

Funding for Deadrop is being made through $50 Founders Access Passes, giving players access to “snapshots” from early development stages. People with the Founders pass can play the first one right now called Snapshot CL 1859, with the ability to test out a weapon and explore a hideout.

There’s not much to see just yet, as it is a very early build. Midnight Society’s approach to the development is unique, as most studios and developers choose to hide these early builds. Only time will tell on how the process unfolds.

Midnight Society stated that “the focus of this build was to establish the foundation for core player movement, weapon systems, and to introduce an environment in which to test the first wepaon. In addition, Snapshot_CL 1859 marks the beginning of authentication, profile, account, dedicated server support, and code to support future Deadrop multiplayer functionality.”

Every six weeks, a new snapshot will be released, with only the 10,000 players with a Founders Access Pass getting the chance to try them. More Founders Passes will be coming out at some point in the future as well.

The NFT angle comes along with the in-game avatar that Founders received when buying the Access Pass. There are currently plans to add more NFTs later on.
