Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a sequel, possibly with a multiplayer component

CD Projekt Red has announced that Cyberpunk 2077 won’t just be getting a DLC expansion, but it will also be getting a full sequel.

In a tweet, CD Projekt Red said that “Orion is a codename for our next Cyberpunk game, which will take the Cyberpunk franchise further and continue harnessing the potential of this dark future universe.”

Currently, no details have been given besides the codename and the fact that it’s a Cyberpunk game. There may also be a multiplayer factor to Codename Orion, as CD Projekt Red did say that future plans include “introducing multiplayer to most of our new games to enrich the singleplayer experience.”

Cyberpunk 2077 has had a major resurgence over the past month, with the game recently surpassing 20 million sales. Along with several updates, patches, and Netflix’s Edgerunners anime, player counts have gone up big time.

Cyberpunk 2077 launched back in December 2020 and was considered one of the most disastrous launches in the gaming industry.

CD Projekt has announced that alongside the upcoming expansion, Cyberpunk 2077 will also be getting a full sequel. However, since then, it seems like Cyberpunk has gotten some level of redemption.

CD Projekt Red also announced a new Witcher trilogy and a new original project codenamed Hadar. CD Projekt Red’s long-term outlook is to establish “three enduring franchises” that feature both “singleplayer stories and multiplayer experiences.”
