Gwent team to be laid off by CD Projekt Red

CD Projekt Red is laying off 30 people, the remaining members of the Gwent team, as it prepares to end development of the Witcher spin-off.

In a blog post on May 24, 2023, CD Projekt Red announced that it is proceeding with plans for Project GWENTfinity, which will allow fans to continue playing Gwent with the active support of the development team.

The number of staff required has become smaller and smaller due to this new initiative. Some of the team members have been moved to other projects as a part of this change.

Only 30 people are left working on Gwent, and CD Projekt Red has confirmed that they will be let go at the end of 2023.

“It’s never easy to say goodbye,” the Witcher publisher wrote, “and even though decisions like this are unavoidable and a natural result of the transition, we’d like to express our sincere thanks for all the contributions these team members have made to Gwent — just like the community, you helped make the game what it is today.”

This news follows recent layoffs at CD Projekt studio The Molasses. 29 were laid off from the studio due to changes in a project codenamed Sirius.
