Netflix has won Best Animated Program at the Emmys for its League of Legends show, Arcane. It is now the first time a show made by a streaming service has received this sort of award.

Arcane was one of the biggest shows on the platform for a while when it released in 2021, and still remains one of the best shows on Netflix.

Riot Games also revealed how the series came into fruition, releasing a miniseries called Bridging the Rift. The showrunners Alex Yee and Christian Linke explain that Riot wanted to give more story beyond cutscenes for League of Legends. Founders Brandon Beck and Marc Merrill did not believe that an animated show for the popular MOBA would work, but an animation test eventually won over the co-founders:

Arcane follows the story of the enduring conflict between the poor people of Zaun and the rich of Piltover. At its core, the show is about League of Legends champions Vi and Jinx as they try to reunite amidst the conflict and chaos of life. The series has been renewed for a second season.

The series was animated by French studio Fortiche Productions.
