Spider-Man: Freshman Year Disney+ will not feature Tom Holland

Although Tom Holland has become a favorite amongst Marvel fans for his role in the newer Spider-Man films, he will not be playing the web-slinging neighborhood hero in the new Disney+ series, Spider-Man: Freshman Year.

This would not be the first time Disney+ has not brought on film actors to voice their respective characters in other projects. The Disney+ show, What If…? did not feature several film actors to play their characters either.

Tom Holland is expected to return to the big screen in the next Spider-Man trilogy that will be a joint production between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures. Holland recently appeared as Peter Parker in the latest Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, back in December 2021.

The new Disney+ series will serve as a prequel to the Tom Holland Spider-Man films and will act as a sort of ”origin story” for the character. No word has been given thus far on who will voice Spider-Man.

Currently, many suspect that Hudson Thames will voice Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Freshman Year, as he was a favorite for his role as Spider-Man in What If…? and is the most likely first pick for casting.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year Set to be Animated Marvel Show

Spider-Man: Freshman Year is slated to be an animated series and will ”[follow] Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU, with a journey unlike we’ve ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots.”

The series was officially announced last year during Disney+ Day. Other projects were also revealed, including X-Men ’97 and Marvel Zombies.

Marvel is also set to have a panel at San Diego Comic-Con this week for animation.
