Fox’s Tubi will be premiering their newest film: Hot Take on September 30 of this year.

The movie will star Mark Hapka as Depp and Megan Davis as Heard, with Melissa Marty playing Depp’s lawyer and Mary Carrig playing Heard’s lawyer. The film will follow the story of the two Hollywood celebrities’ relationship as it leads up to the defamation trial that Depp won back in June of this year.

The trial was won in Depp’s favor after a 2018 opinion-ed piece by Heard made false accusations of domestic violence against the Pirates of the Caribbean star, which the jury counted as defamation.

Hot Take will be written by Guy Nicolucci, the writer behind The Daily Show, and will be directed by Sara Lohman. The movie was considered a rushed project. According to Tubi’s chief content creator Adam Lewinson, the process was sped up to “capture a timely take on a story that became part of the cultural zeitgeist, painting a unique picture of what millions watched play out in the headlines over the summer.”

“‘Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial’ is one of many timely, culturally relevant original movies to come from our expanding partnership and slate of movies being produced in collaboration with Tubi,” stated Hannah Pillemer, the EVP creative of affairs for MarVista.

“Connecting viewers to stories with this kind of social currency and topicality make watching them a must for any fan of pop culture or celebrity drama.”
