Famous actor Zac Efron has been casted for one of the main roles in the upcoming film ‘The Iron Claw’.

The movie tells the tragic story of the Von Erich wrestling family of Dallas, the family who made wrestling what it is today. Their influence as a family can be seen as early as the 1960’s and lasts until today. However, of the 6 family sons, 5 would die tragically from drugs, illnesses, suicide, and more.

This is the first time a movie about the family has actually gone into production, under A24 studios, making this a first for Hollywood. The Deadline magazine detailed Zac Efron’s role in the film last week, calling it “a piece of material that is transformative and gritty and is surely unlike anything he’s done before in his career.”

The film most likely gets its name from the trademark wrestling move of Fritz Von Erich, a 23-time world champion. He quickly became a star in the National Wrestling Alliance back in the 1960’s. Kevin Von Erich’s two sons are the ones currently in wrestling.

“I think people realized we were human,” Kevin stated in his show the Dark Side of the Ring. “You could guarantee we had pure hearts, and we had good motives. Maybe that was something real about us. We were family, we loved each other. We regarded our fans as people, not tickets.”
