Battlefield 2042 launched with a not-so glorious beginning, but it seems like EA may be practically abandoning ship. It probably doesn’t come as a shock to many, but seriously…what is going on with Battlefield? And honestly, how did we get here?
Battlefield 2042 was one of the most anticipated games to release in 2021 and people were beyond excited to give it a go. Many gamers who were getting tired of Call of Duty were hoping that Battlefield would make its mark with a futuristic modern shooter, but that clearly didn’t happen.
Some claims have come out regarding the title and EA’s work. Reports have revealed that essentially nobody is working on the shooter. However, EA has responded saying that the claims are “untrue.”
Journalist Jeff Grubb spoke about this issue and claimed that the remaining team working on Battlefield 2042 was tasked with delivering four seasons of live service content the “fastest and cheapest it possibly can.”

Grubb said that “this game is basically down to a skeleton crew. It’s down to like the bare bones and those people are specifically just working on the promised additional seasons that the game needs to meet the requirements of the high-end version that it sold.”
The situation, according to Grubb, is on “abandon ship time.” He also said that EA is already working on its next Battlefield title. It’s a pretty big claim, and EA took note.
EA stated to Eurogamer that the report is false and that “there is a significant team at DICE, alongside our other studios, focused on evolving and improving the Battlefield 2042 experience for all players.”

Battlefield 2042 has gone down in history as one of the worst rated games on Steam ever when it launched back in November, with the situation seemingly not improving at all since. The player counts across all platforms have gone down and many gamers are abandoning the Battlefield ship themselves.
DICE said that it was committed to bringing 2042 “up to the highest standards that we all hold for the franchise.”
It’s not like the progress on these standards has been reasonable, with Season 1 being delayed several times and being given a release date of June 9. Mind you, 2042 launched way back in November. It’s been a while.

It doesn’t look like Battlefield 2042 is going to be able to dig itself out from the trenches of its own failure, and it doesn’t look like players are going to give it another chance anytime soon.
Kinda reminds you of Anthem, doesn’t it?
