For those of you who enjoy Dark Souls PvP, you won’t be able to for some time.

Dark Souls has indefinitely shut down its PvP servers due to a remote code exploit that allows hackers to take control of your entire PC. Although the publisher did not specifically state what the issue was, on the Elden Ring subreddit, a discovery of the exploit was followed up by this announcement.

The exploit was discovered during The_Grim_Sleeper’s Twitch stream of Dark Souls 3. While he was playing, a hacker broke into his PC and turned on Microsoft’s text-to-speech generator. The hacker claimed that he was trying to bring attention to the issue by hacking streamers, as FromSoftware–the developer of Dark Souls–would not respond to his concerns.

It’s good news that a non-malicious user was able to find this exploit, as this could have been a disastrous thing for many PC players of the Dark Souls franchise. The exploit can allow hackers to steal sensitive information and install malware onto PCs.

For now, the Xbox and PlayStation servers are still online and PvP is still available. However, PC is currently getting a fix, so hopefully this problem gets fixed soon.
