Netflix’s highly-anticipated show, The Witcher, has had its season three release date put on hold following lead actor Henry Cavill getting covid-19.
Netflix issued a statement via The Hollywood Reporter saying that the show’s filming “paused due to COVID and we will be up and running as soon as it is safe to do so.” The studio has not published other details yet.
The show was expanding its cast for season 3. It was confirmed back in April that Robbie Amell (The Flash) and Meng’er Zhang would be joining the show’s already impressive cast.
Later in the year Michalina Olszanska and Ryan Hayes (The Lure and Carnival, respectively) would also come on board.
The third season’s plot synopsis shows that Geralt, the main character played by Cavill, and Yennefer take Ciri into hiding at Aretuza following season 2.
“Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers,” the synopsis states.
“Instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”
