The PlayStation 5, Sony’s latest console, is getting support for 1440p monitors in its next firmware update
Announced on the PlayStation blog, the feature has now entered its beta phase and is in its final stages of testing before being rolled out to PlayStation 5 users across the world. It’s certainly a welcome decision for many with monitors who want to get the full experience from their screens.
PC players have been requesting the feature since the launch of the console, especially since the Xbox Series X already had 1440p support at launch.
The post stated that “if the game you’re playing supports 1440p rendering you can experience native 1440p output on your display. Or, if you’re playing a game with a higher native resolution like 4K, then you may benefit from improved anti-aliasing through supersampling down to 1440p output.
“You can check if your HDMI device is compatible by selecting ‘Test 1440p Output’ under ‘Screen and Video’ options within system settings.”
Additionally in the beta, there will be Gamelist, allowing players to sort their games with support for up to 15 lists of 100 games maximum each.
The firmware update will make it easier to see in-progress activities and social features like requesting party members to share their screens.
This is not the first new announcement by Sony for the PlayStation brand, with the new PlayStation Plus tiers and the PlayStation Stars rewards program being recently announced as well.
