Growing up, I wasn’t that big of a fan of granola. I mean, sure, I wouldn’t mind having it with some yogurt but it was really rare. Plus, we didn’t make or get granola much anyways when I was young. So let me tell you, when I tried this granola, it blew my mind. It literally changed my entire view and upped the granola game.
This recipe is SUPER basic and perfect for picky eaters. It has minimal ingredients and you can add whatever you want to it. It’s quick and easy to make and a great healthy alternative to your favorite granola.
It’s wonderful as breakfast and as a snack. Whenever I have breakfast with it, I always put it in a nice bowl and add in some yogurt. This can be vanilla or fruit-flavored. I personally love it with strawberry or vanilla yogurt. Then I add fresh or frozen fruit. This could be dragon fruit, mango, pineapple, passion fruit, strawberries, blueberries, you name it! I also feel like you need to put fresh bananas in your breakfast plate to bring out the flavor. Here, the granola brings crunch, the yogurt brings a soft component, and the fruit gives different texture and flavor.
I myself am a picky eater. I hate so many different foods and just can’t stand weird textures. I’m sure there’s a lot of different people out there like me. One food I’ve grown to love is granola from this recipe. When I made it with my family, it was gone within days. It also always provided a meal or snack alternative when we didn’t cook fresh food. It was like leftovers, but fresh and amazing!
Once you try this simple, healthy, and SUPER tasty granola recipe, you’re never going back to store bought.
Recipe for Success
Base:
- 5 cups rolled oats
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil or light olive oil or coconut oil
- 3/4 cup honey (more or less depending on taste and want for granola chunks)
- 10 grams of vanilla (if liquid, around 2 teaspoons)
- (optional) 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon
I just want to say one thing before giving the recipe. If you like having extra chunks in your granola, add more honey to the mixture. I would say add this and adjust it to your liking. Also, if you like a big boost of flavor, add more cinnamon in the granola. So anyways, let’s get into the recipe.
You can add fruit into it if you like. But, I never add berries or fruit in my granola recipe because when they dry, I feel like it takes the fresh sensation that comes with fruit away. So, I recommend not adding fruit before putting your granola in the oven. The maximum I would see good to add is around a cup of some raw chopped up almonds. Other than that, add anything you want directly to your plate and don’t add it to the granola to bake as it loses its taste and texture. Soon, I’ll post a recipe for a granola add-on jar where you can prepare toppings to add in whenever you like.
Instructions
- Put oats in a bowl with vanilla (if powder) and cinnamon
- Mix well
- In a separate pot put the oil and honey and warm them on the stove (don’t let them boil)
- When they get hot, mix them well, and pour them on the oats
- Mix everything together to absorb the liquid
- Then, prepare an oven tray and line it with parchment paper
- Spread the mixture evenly on the paper
- Put them in a preheated oven between 320 and 350 Fahrenheit depending on your oven
- Be sure to check and mix them every few minutes in the oven until they become a light brown
*If you use liquid vanilla, mix it with the honey and oil and put it in the pot with them*
The granola will still be tender, but when it cools outside of the oven, they will become SUPER crunchy and SUPER good. If you leave them in the oven for too long until they’re brownish, they will already be crunchy out of the oven and will be extra crunchy later on. But, this could give it a burnt flavor.
You can put it in a Ziploc bag or jar or any container with a good lid and it will stay good for a couple of months. Again, remember to follow us to read about our add-on jar soon.
Once you perfected the base of the granola, even if you eat it alone, it will be amazing!
I hope you like this recipe and remember to tell us your thoughts on it in the comments!
