Taika Waititi, one of the world’s largest filmmakers, has shared some crucial updates for his upcoming Star Wars film.
This will be his newest project following Thor: Love and Thunder, shifting focus to a different cinematic universe. The director has experience working in the world of Star Wars, namely in Disney+’s show The Mandalorian, in which he played an assassin droid, as well as directing chapter 8 of the show.
For those fans on the edge of their seat however, you can recline a little as he won’t begin development on the film until later next year.
Not much else is known about the film however. Waititi told The Wrap that the project is still in development and that he still needs to determine what the story will be in the first place.
“Not this year. I’m going to be in New Zealand from August until the end of the year with Our Flag Means Death and Time Bandits’ and during that time I will still be writing. I’m still trying to figure out what the story is.”
He was also interviewed by SlashFilm, where he went into detail about how he’s currently too busy to write the film’s script. He told interviewers: “No, I’m able to kind of bring my tone. At the moment it’s just very early, because I … still haven’t even finished the script. I’m still trying to come up with ideas and I’m mostly kind of in that part of the process where it’s still very kind of open.”
“And when I write, I kind of write every idea I’ve ever had and then start to kind of chisel it down into something. But I’m still throwing everything at the wall right now.”
