Spider-Man: No Way Home was re-released to theaters after originally debuted in December 2021. It’s now topping the slow box office over Labor Day weekend.
Sony re-released the film with 11 minutes of extra footage, and has brought in $6 million from 3,935 theaters. It’s also expected to finish the holiday weekend on Monday with about $7.6 million.
Otherwise, the box office has been facing an end-of-summer slowdown. Top Gun: Maverick is still in the top charts, making about $5.5 million over the weekend and Friday and will make an estimated $7 million through Monday.
Both Top Gun: Maverick and Spider-Man: No Way Home are available on streaming services as well.
In terms of other films, Focus Features released Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul, a satire film about a mega-church. It landed in 14th place and is expected to reach $1.75 million. The film is also releasing on Peacock.
The past Saturday was one of the highest-attended days in the year due to National Cinema Day, where ticket sales were slashed to super low prices. 8.1 million people viewed films at more than 3,000 theaters. Some chains like AMC charged people as low as $3 to watch any movie in any format.
Despite increased attendance, revenue did not see much in terms of numbers.
The Invitation, which was at the top of the box office last weekend, has fallen to fifth place. Bullet Trail and DC League of Super-Pets were within the top five in the charts as well.
