It seems like Sacha Baron Cohen has been confirmed for a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s next project, Ironheart.
In a report by Deadline, the British actor is likely going to star as the long-awaited villain, Mephisto.
“A source close to the production confirmed to Deadline that there has been talk on the set about Cohen being part of Ironheart, likely playing Mephisto,” they confirmed.
Mephisto made his first appearance in the comic books in Silver Surfer #3 back in 1968. Fans of the comics have been patiently waiting for him to appear in an MCU project for a while.
Mephisto does seem like an interesting pick for Ironheart, since he typically faced off against characters like Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch and Ghost Rider in the comics.
Ironheart stars Dominique Thorne as Riri Williams, who is a genius inventor that creates an advanced Iron Man-style suit of armor. The cast of Iron Heart currently includes Anthony Ramos, Manny Montana, Shakira Barrera, Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, Shea Coulee, and Zoe Terakes.
Mephisto is expected to appear in more MCU projects beyond Ironheart. He may appear in the WandaVision spin-off, Agatha: Coven of Chaos.
Sacha Baron Cohen is well-known for his fictional Kazakhstan journalist character named Borat. He receieved critical acclaim and praise for Borat and Borat 2.
Cohen also starred in The Trial of the Chicago 7 and will star in the upcoming Apple+ series, Disclaimer. He also played as King Julien in the Madagascar movies, in case you were wondering.
