Kanye West (Ye) is set to buy Parler by the end of this year

Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, is set to buy Parler, a controversial social media network that claims to be the “free speech” alternative to Twitter and other social media platforms.

Parlement Technologies, the parent company of Parler, announced on Monday in a press release that Ye will be acquiring the platform. The company added that Ye’s acquisition will “further lead the fight to create a truly non-cancelable environment.”

The deal is expected to close towards the end of 2022.

In the official Parler statement, Ye said that: “In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves.”

The CEO of Parlement Technologies, George Farmer said that the acquisition “will change the world, and change the way the world thinks about free speech.

“Ye is making a groundbreaking move into the free speech media space and will never have to fear being removed from social media again. Once again, Ye proves that he is one step ahead of the legacy media narrative.

“Parlement will be honored to help him achieve his goals.”

Farmer is married to Candace Owens, a conservative commentator that has been photographed with Ye several times.

Ye’s acquisition of Parler comes after intense social media backlash following controversial statements and posts made on different platforms. On October 10, Ye was temporarily locked out of Twitter and Instagram for antisemitic posts. He also came under fire for wearing a “White Lives Matter’ shirt during Paris Fashion Week.

Earlier this year, Ye was suspended for 24 hours from Instagram after using a racial slur against comedian Trever Noah.

Around the time of the acquisition announcement, Ye joined Parler. The app markets itself as an alternative to other platforms such as Twitter. It was created by two Nevada-based conservative programmers back in 2018. The app rose to popularity near 2020, especially among Donald Trump supporters and right-wing personalities.

Parler was removed from the Google Play Store and the Apple Store back in 2021 for allegedly playing a role in the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Parler was reinstated to the App Store in May 2021 and Google Play reinstated Parler this year.
