It looks like we may be seeing Mortal Kombat 12 launch this year. However, the reveal was pretty underhyped, coming from an earnings call with Warner Bros. Discovery.
In a clip from the fourth quarter 2022 earnings call yesterday, Warner Bros. Discovery president and CEO David Zaslav said that 2023 would be seeing “Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League…with ambitious launch projections.”
Netherrealm Studios, the developer behind the Mortal Kombat series has not announced anything yet. However, Ed Boon, the co-creator of Mortal Kombat and studio head at Netherrealm tweeted out: “so who has heard the news about Injustice 3?”
This basically references that Netherrealm has released an Injustice game between Mortal Kombat releases. This would mean that Injustice 3 would be next if the pattern was kept up.
With this in mind, we can probably expect to see a much more intense and much nicer reveal for Mortal Kombat 12 soon. It would be a pretty big deal for the fighter genre, as Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 are set to release in 2023 too.
The last Mortal Kombat announcement was back in 2022, which was the mobile title Mortal Kombat: Onslaught. The mobile RPG is set to release in 2023 as well.
Mortal Kombat 11 released back in 2019 and was given major critical acclaim. Positive reviews surrounded the title, which featured an awesome reveal trailer as well.
We can’t wait to see what’s next for Mortal Kombat! And you can be sure that we’ll be here for it.
