Film production studios Grain Media and 101 Studios will be teaming up with the Miami Herald newspaper to work on a documentary covering the tragic collapse of the Champlain Towers building in Surfside, Fl, back in 2021.

The incident was considered one of the deadliest infrastructural failures in history, killing over 98 people. The docu-series, titled ‘Surviving Surfside’ will cover the event via reporting, interviews with survivors and responders, relatives, journalists, and much more. It’ll also be going into all the elements that led to the event, and pose the argument that the whole situation “might have been averted.” It was announced in a press release this week.

“As a newsroom, we poured our hearts into the breaking news and the ongoing daily coverage, and subsequent investigative coverage, of the Champlain Towers South condominium collapse story,” Herald Executive Editor Monica Richardson stated. “It was our story to tell because the people and the families in Surfside who were impacted by this unthinkable tragedy are a part of our community.”

COO of 101 studios stated during the report that “Surviving Surfside” is a story “obviously about an unthinkable tragedy, but it is also one that is a testament to the power of the human spirit and the importance of tenacious journalism fighting for the truth.”

“We are so proud to be partnering with the Herald and Grain Media to bring this high-stakes mystery to audiences in a way that has never been seen before.”

It’s the second project in a three-part documentary series on the event, developed by director Stephanie Soechting and E! News host Jason Kennedy.
