Skydance studios has officially scrapped their latest project, Dallas Sting, a soccer drama film, weeks before shooting was set to begin.
The movie tells the story of a girl’s soccer team that travelled from Dallas to China back in 1984, with McConaughey set to play the team’s coach, a man named Bill Kinder. The movie was supposed to tell the tale of a rising underdog team as they made international headlines.
The movie’s director was going to be Kari Skogland, behind Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and the producer was to be Skydance, who produced the last three Mission: Impossible films and Top Gun: Maverick, 2022’s most successful movie.
However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio stopped production on the project after learning about certain claims regarding the movie’s real life events, which they would not disclose. According to a source the film’s producers were sad to hear that the project was cancelled.
The movie’s production was scrapped incredibly quickly and suddenly for a project of its size, leading many to think about just how serious the film’s accusations are. McConaughey was set to have his first live-action role since The Gentlemen, where he played Michael Peasron.
