HBO has decided to cancel its sci-fi drama about a robotic theme park, Westworld. The cancelation comes as a shock to many fans.
Westworld has been a big hit for HBO and has received critical acclaim, but the show’s creators were relatively unclear on if the show would return after the fourth season finale airs.
Jonathan Nolan, one of the creators, previously explained that he and Lisa Joy were “in conversations with the network” and were hopeful to make a fifth and final season for the series.
However, it looks like the fourth season is it for Westworld. The show originally premiered in 2016 and centered around a theme part styled after the Wild West that is inhabited by robots that people can interact with. Eventually, the robots begin to become sentient and try to fight against humanity.
The first two seasons were extremely successful and garnered millions of views. However, viewership declined across seasons 3 and 4. Although season 4 was good for the show, it looks like the numbers just weren’t enough for HBO.
HBO is currently working on a TV adaptation of The Last of Us and Nolan and Joy are working with Amazon Prime on the TV adaptation of Fallout.
