Elon Musk asks Twitter users if he should step down as CEO in new poll

Twitter has been on an interesting ride ever since Elon Musk took over and became CEO in a $44 billion acquisition. Many Twitter users have found themselves at a loss with Musk’s decisions thus far while others have praised him. It depends on who you’re asking. However, Elon Musk has seemingly responded to some of the criticism and posted a poll asking Twitter users if he should step down as CEO.

Musk added that he would “abide by the results” of the poll. He posted it on December 18 from his own Twitter account and more than 17.5 million users answered it. A little over 57% said that he should step down.

Since he posted it, there seems to be no indication on if he will actually respond and step down or not. Musk has previously posted about many changes that he would bring to Twitter, and some have not come to life.

Elon Musk has previously said that he would try to find someone else as CEO back in November and that he wanted to reduce his time as boss. Still, that may not be indicative of anything. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Recent Controversy on Twitter

Just yesterday, new controversy was stirred up after Twitter’s support account tweeted that users would not be able to freely advertise their other social media accounts anymore.

Apparently, prompting users to go and follow other social media accounts like Instagram or TikTok will violate Twitter terms of service. This also includes having a linktree, which is an aggregator of several links that has become widely popular among social media content creators.

Then that tweet was deleted and the policy was removed as well. It faced immense backlash by Twitter users. Many claimed that it violated free speech, which Elon Musk stated he was very adamant about. Others stated that the decision went against social media in general.

Many tried to defend this policy decision that was later overturned, stating that it was Musk’s business and his right to ban people from promoting other platforms.

Currently, there is no telling what’s next for Twitter and what new changes are coming. It’s erratic announcements and decisions certainly have people on the edges of their seats, however.
