E3–a major event in the gaming world–has been officially canceled for 2022. Both its physical and virtual events have been fully canceled after previous reports earlier in the year announced that it would be going digital once again.
News first broke out when Razer PR lead Will Powers tweeted that an email had been sent out announcing the cancelation of the E3 digital event.
The hopes for the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) were to have an in-person event this year following the digital event in 2021 and having no event in 2020 due to COVID-19. However, the ESA canceled the in-person event back in January and have no additionally canceled the digital event.

The ESA also shared an official statement confirmed that E3 will return in 2023 to a “reinvigorated showcase,” as reported by IGN. They additionally stated that they were focusing on ensuring that “the revitalized showcase sets a new standard for hybrid industry events and fan engagement.”
The ESA said that they were planning on devoting their energy towards making a physical and digital experience for 2023 instead. It would “bring the community, media, and industry back together in an all-new format and interactive experience. We look forward to presenting E3 to fans around the world live from Los Angeles in 2023.”
