Cyberpunk 2077 player resurgence

Cyberpunk 2077 has beaten the Witcher 3’s all-time peak player count, with a resurgence in the player base. 104,827 players concurrently loaded into Night City to play, meanwhile 103,329 is the record that the Witcher 3 holds.

The recent spike in the player count has been attributed to several factors, including the 1.6 patch that fixed many issues and added new features, as well as a good discount over on Steam. Additionally, the Netflix anime Edgerunners has been sparking interest in the game again.

Although not anywhere near its concurrent player count at launch, which was 1,054,388, it’s still much better than how the game was averaging in recent months. Cyberpunk 2077 was getting averages of about 20,000 to 30,000 concurrent players.

Do keep in mind that the numbers are only Steam figures and do not include the console versions of the game, which did receive a major patch earlier this year for the next-gen version.

In response to the surge in players, Cyberpunk 2077 quest director Pawel Sasko said: “Thank you so much chooms for this second chance.”

Cyberpunk 2077’s first expansion, Phantom Liberty, was announced back in September and will release for PC, Stadia, and next gen consoles in 2023. It is also the only planned expansion for the game, but the team is “fully committed” on building the Cyberpunk IP further.

CD Projekt Red did say that they had to make the “difficult decision” to not release Phantom Liberty on last-gen consoles “as the scope for the expansion makes releasing it for previous-gen consoles technologically challenging without compromising player experience.”
