Battlefield 1 is back in the Steam top 10 best-sellers chart, 6 years after being released.

As spotted by Emopulse, Battlefield 1 saw a pretty sudden jump in interest and popularity. It’s currently seeing its largest concurrent player count ever (the game was only added to Steam back in 2020).

The player count reached about 49,732 over the past 24 hours. In that same period, it’s beaten Battlefield 2042–EA’s latest release–by 44,000 players.

Why is Battlefield 1 Trending Over Battlefield 2042?

There are probably a few reasons why; most notably, Battlefield 1 went on discount and currently costs about $4.79. Battlefield 2042 is newer and costs more, but Battlefield 1 was still bringing in more concurrent Steam players than Battlefield 2042 prior to the discount anyways.

Battlefield 2042 was only getting somewhere between 8 to 15 thousand concurrent Steam players recently, with Battlefield V even getting more concurrent players than Battlefield 2042. It is worth noting that Battlefield V is not on discount now either.

Additionally, Battlefield 2042 has been what could be considered a major flop of a release. Battlefield 2042 was hit by major criticism due to problems with the mechanics, bugs, the maps, the lack of updates, and so much more.

The head of Respawn Entertainment, Vince Zampella, said that one of the reasons Battlefield 2042 was probably unpopular was fans was that it “strayed too far” from the standard Battlefield style.

Battlefield 1 has been out for a long time and has a strong base of fans to this day, so it makes sense that it would see better numbers alongside a sale boosting its player count.
