A guide to Hunter Abilities in Assassin's Creed Odyssey

One of the more unique parts of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is its Abilities that you can equip to enhance your gameplay. You can unlock Abilities by leveling up your character (check out our guide on if you should pick Alexios or Kassandra) and by upgrading the Spear of Leonidas. There are several ability-types in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. This guide will give you an understanding of how Hunter Abilities work in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and how you can use them to your advantage.

What Types of Abilities Are There?

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey splits its Abilities into three classes: Hunter, Warrior, and Assassin.

Each class of Abilities pertains to something specific:

  • Hunter Abilities are for ranged combat and anything that requires a bow.
  • Warrior Abilities are for close-quarter combat. They help with direct melee attacks and armor.
  • Assassin Abilities are for assassinations. They help you get better at assassin-work, really.

Abilities in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey are organized in a way that’s fairly easy to understand. It’s not really a skill tree like you might see in other video games. Each Ability sector has prerequisites before you can fully upgrade that sector. Below is an image that should show you what it looks like:

Assassin's Creed Odyssey abilities, specifically Hunter Abilities

For the most part, you will need at least two Ability Points to upgrade any Abilities. Each time you upgrade the Spear of Leonidas, you’ll need more Ability Points to upgrade each ability. You can also reset Abilities for a certain amount of drachmae (the in-game currency).

Once the Spear of Leonidas is upgraded to Level 4, there is a second melee Ability Wheel that is unlocked.

Hunter Abilities in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Abilities are split up into tiers, with each tier being unlocked once you level up your character to a certain point.

Tier 1

You unlock Tier 1 immediately. Here’s what’s included in this tier:

Sixth Sense

Time will slow for up to five seconds once you’re spotted by enemies. When you aim arrows at a target, they lock onto the torso and can deal 150% Hunter damage.

At Level 2, time will slow for up to six seconds and bows will deal 175% Hunter damage.

At Level 3, time will slow for up to eight seconds, arrows will lock onto a target’s head and deal 200% Hunter damage.

Spread Shot

The Spread Shot allows you to shoot 3 arrows at the same time. Each arrow will deal 100% Hunter damage.

Predator Shot

The Predator Shot is absolutely amazing at hitting long-distance targets. When you go to shoot an arrow, you can zoom in and deal 380% Hunter damage. The arrow will travel 25% farther. You can control the arrow in the air once you release it.

At Level 2, you deal 450% damage, travel 8% farther and can use special arrow types.

At Level 4, you deal 550% damage, travel 150% farther, and can use special arrow types.

Tier 2

Once your character reaches Level 5, you unlock Tier 2 of the Hunter Abilities.

Arrow Master

You can craft Paralyzing Arrows in the Inventory Menu. Paralyzing Arrows are special arrows that can deal Knock Out damage. You can recruit enemies to your ship when you knock them out with these.

At Level 2, you can craft Fire and Poison Arrows.

At Level 3, you can craft Explosive Arrows.

Quick Tip: Fire Arrows are great for attacking from a range and can cause maximum chaos.

Multi-Shot

With Multi-Shot, you can target up to four enemies at a single time and shoot an arrow that deals 150% Hunter damage to each one.

Devastating Shot

When you use Devastating Shot, you release an arrow that deals 290% Hunter damage, but you can double this when you fully charge the shot.

Fire and Poison Arrow elemental buildup will be increased by 150%.

Special Arrows are allowed to be used for this as well.

At Level 2, you can deal 350% Hunter damage. Plus, elemental buildup is increased by 175%.

At Level 3, you can deal 400% Hunter damage. Plus, elemental buildup is increased by 200%.

Tier 3

Once you reach your character to Level 10, you will unlock Tier 3.

Beast Master

You can tame wild animals that you knock out. One wild animal can be tamed at a time aside from elite animals. At its base level, you can tame a wolf you’ve knocked out.

At Level 2, you can tame a lynx, leopard and lion.

When you reach Level 3, you can tame bears.

Rain of Destruction

You can rain down on enemies a wave of arrows in an area totaling 3 meters and deal 300% Hunter damage.

Archery Master

You can increase your Hunter damage by 20%. Also, when using Hunter Abilities, you don’t use up Standard Arrows anymore.

At Level 2, you increase Hunter damage by 30% and headshot damage by 20%. If a segment of Adrenaline is partially drained, it will refill outside of combat.

At Level 3, you can increase Hunter damage by 40% and headshot damage by 40%. Segments of Adrenaline will refill outside of combat. When you’re aiming a bow in midair, time slows down.

Tier 4

Tier 4 is unlocked when you level up your character to Level 16.

Overpower Bow Strike

Requires Archery Master to be unlocked first.

Overpower Bow Strike allows you to shoot a charged arrow that deals 1,000% Hunter damage and explodes upon impact. It will use three Adrenaline segments.

At Level 2, you can shoot a charged arrow that deals 1,200% Hunter damage and explodes upon impact. It will use three Adrenaline segments.

At Level 3, you can shoot a charged arrow that deals 1,500% Hunter damage and explodes upon impact. It will also use three Adrenaline segments.

Tier 5

Once you level your character up to Level 23, you will unlock this tier.

Ghost Arrows of Artemis

Requires Overpower Bow Strike.

You can shoot a ghostly arrow that can slip through shield, enemies, and also walls. It will deal 260% Hunter damage.
