‘My behavior was unacceptable,’ the actor states at the beginning of the video.
Hollywood star Will Smith has recently come under fire after slapping comedian Chris Rock during the 2022 Oscars event. As a response to the controversy he has published a YouTube video, titled: It’s been a minute, where he apologizes to his co-actor.
In the video, which you can watch below, Smith answers questions many of his fans have and say that he’s directly reached out to Rock, who “isn’t ready to talk, and when he is he will reach out.”
During the video Smith explains why he hadn’t apologized to Rock during his speech, to which he replied that he was “fogged out by that point.”
“My behaviour was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”
To add the actor also apologized to Chris Rock’s family, as well as QuestLove, who had won an award directly after the incident went down. “I can still see QuestLove’s eyes,” Smith stated. ” ‘I’m sorry’ really isn’t sufficient.”
The Slap
What led to Smith’s current problem was, of course, the slap.
During the Academy Awards broadcast a few months ago, Chris Rock was reading out the names for nominees for Best Documentary Feature. During his narration he cracked a joke at Will Smith’s wife, Jada Smith’s, hair.
Smith proceeded to storm onto the stage, slap Rock right in the face, and then swear at him loudly in the audience.
The scene shocked audiences who responded with mixed views, which were mostly negative however.
During the fallout of the slap Smith resigned from his membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, was banned from attending any Academy events for the next decade, and had his newest film project delayed.
The film, Emancipation, was set to release at some point soon, given as it was shot already. Its Fall release date was delayed following the incident however.
