Spiderhead debuts on Netflix at the number 1 spot

The Chris Hemsworth led Netflix film has done wonders in the field of numbers. Spiderhead was able to dethrone Adam Sandler’s Hustle to the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s Top Ten list. Spiderhead debuted on June 17.

Spiderhead also includes Miles Teller, who was in the recent box office smash hit, Top Gun: Maverick. The film also stars Jurnee Smollett, Tess Haubrich, Bebe Bettencourt, and Nathan Jones. Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were responsible for the script and Joseph Kosinski was in charge of directing. Needless to say, some big names were involved in this one.

“In a state-of-the-art penitentiary run by brilliant visionary Steve Abnesti (Chris Hemsworth), inmates wear a surgically attached device that administers dosages of mind-altering drugs in exchange for commuted sentences. There are no bars, no cells, or orange jumpsuits. In Spiderhead, incarcerated volunteers are free to be themselves. Until they’re not. At times, they’re a better version. Need to lighten up? There’s a drug for that. At a loss for words? There’s a drug for that, too. But when two subjects, Jeff (Miles Teller) and Lizzy (Jurnee Smollett), form a connection, their path to redemption take a twistier turn, as Abnesti’s experiments start to push the limits of free will altogether.”

Despite the high viewership, reviews have been fairly low. Spiderhead received a 44% on Rotten Tomatoes with the audience score at 35%.

Netflix’s recent films have not done great in terms of reviews, but do pull in the viewership. Of course, many had high expectations walking into Spiderhead due to the big names involved. The viewership count was good enough for Netflix, we’re sure.

Hemsworth’s Thor: love and Thunder is also releasing this year, so the hype to see more Hemsworth is definitely there. Thor: Love and Thunder releases on July 8, 2022, just in time to get some summer movie viewing done.
