The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, reaped in $57 million at the Friday box office. It is projected that it will have an opening weekend of nearly $120 million.
The Warner Bros reboot of the popular DC character could shatter records by being the biggest opening of 2022 thus far. It is currently only second behind Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which opened back in December with $260 million.
The Batman has currently been rated highly by critics and viewers, obtaining an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes thus far. CinemaScore gave the film an A-, compared to the previous B and B+ to Zack Snyder’s Batman vs Superman and Justice League.
The film, which is 3.5 hours long, features a dark rendition of Batman with critics praising its story and mood. The success of The Batman also signals the return to movie theaters as reopenings and COVID-19 restrictions ease across the world.
