According to details revealed by French YouTuber j0nathan, with some details corroborated by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the next Assassin’s Creed title will return to “basics” and will be releasing in 2023.

Bloomberg initially reported in February that Ubisoft was planning on releasing a more stealth-focused title that would be more similar to the earlier series entries versus the latest RPG-style ones.

The new title was originally supposed to be an expansion for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s character Basim. However, it has been spun into a standalone title. It was codenamed Assassin’s Creed Rift and is set to take place in Baghdad, with development being led by Ubisoft Bordeaux.

Bloomberg has also recently reported that the game would release in spring 2023.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set to release before Assassin’s Creed Infinity, which is set to be a collaboration project between Ubisoft Quebec and Ubisoft Montreal, and will be a live service title. Infinity will reportedly be a platform for future Assassin’s Creed games and will contain multiple settings that will be expanded over time.

Schreier confirmed on Twitter that the name Assassin’s Creed Mirage is accurate and that the setting of 9th century Baghdad is also accurate. However, Schreier said that details about a setting with multiple cities to explore is inaccurate.
