Jessica Thompson’s newest film, The Initiation, has just finished its opening weekend at the box office with a mere $7 million in revenue.
This is actually the summer’s weakest North American weekend of the summer, with second place being Brad Pitt’s newest film, Bullet Train coming in at $5.6 million domestically.
The Sony film, directed and co-written by Thompson, stars Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones) as the film’s main protagonist. The movie tells the story of a young woman who slowly discovers dark secrets hidden at her English family home. It had a budget of just $10 million.
In third place came Beat, directed and starring Idris Elba. The film made $4.9 million over its second week following an opening weekend of $11.6 million.
Top Gun: Maverick made $4.8 million, still a lot considering the film just wrapped up its 14th weekend of straight profits. The film is America’s sixth-highest grossing domestic release.
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero fell dramatically across the weekend, making only a mere $4.6 million in revenue after its $20.1 million opening week.
This has been the slowest week over the year, making only $52.7 million in ticket sales. This may change as new films come out across the rest of the year however.
