With the Xbox Series S being nearly the same price, and the shortage of consoles, Microsoft silently stopped producing the Xbox One lineup.
At the release of the next-gen lineup of the Series S and Series X, Microsoft actually ceased production of the Xbox One back in November 2020. Microsoft released in a statement:
To focus on production of Xbox Series X / S, we stopped production for all Xbox One consoles by the end of 2020.
With the semiconductor chip shortage that has been gripping nearly every electronics industry out there, it seems to be that Microsoft has decided to dedicate its resources to producing the next-gen over the older generation of its console lineup.
Meanwhile, Sony announced that it will produce more PS4’s than initially planned, as they were going to cease production on the PS4 back in 2021. However, the PS5 shortages seem to be pushing that decision to a later date. Approximately 1 Million PS4’s will be produced as a result of this chip shortage as the PS4 utilizes a less advanced chip.
