Police arrest suspect in connection with Rockstar Games hack

Police in the UK have arrested a 17-year-old from Oxfordshire who may be behind the security breaches at Rockstar that led to the leaking of massive amounts of GTA 6 footage.

The City of London Police currently have the suspect in custody. Journalist Matthew Keys claimed that the arrest is related to the Rockstar hack and possibly a security breach at Uber as well, citing a source familiar with the matter. The investigation into the hacker had gotten the FBI involved as well.

In a tweet by Keys, he stated that “police expected to give more details on arrest of 17-year-old Rockstar Games hacker later today, possible statement coming from the FBI later this morning/afternoon.”

The hacker in question had leaked over an hour of development footage from Grand Theft Auto 6, likely one of the biggest hacks in the gaming industry ever. The hacker claimed to have gotten the information via an internal Slack channel and that they were behind the recent data breach at Uber, which also involved a Slack channel.

It is not yet confirmed if the Rockstar Games hacker is the same as the Uber hacker, but Uber did release a statement saying that there was a potential link between the two.

Uber also believes that the breach was conducted by hacker group Lapsu$, which has been known for breaching high-profile tech companies like Microsoft and Nvidia in the past as well.
